HISTORY
Sjösportskolan was founded 1967 and run during the first 30 years by Dick Berghede . Dick Bergehede sold the company 1999 to two former employees Nina and Karl Nordstrom and today the company has seven permanent employes. We have a number of fine ships in our fleet. 2005-2006 our largest charter boat, Farr 65 Celeste was used in the Volvo Ocean Race as PR-boat. Since then Celeste has become a popular charter boat and she goes even to the Faroe Islands with groups. 2007 we moved into the Sea Rescue building in Långedrags port. Together with Kryssarklubben, the West Coast Sailing Association and the West Coast Boat Association we are now part of a boating center. We all want to promote a safer and more prosperous boating. Sjösportskolan has a large network of navigation teachers and thanks to them we can keep the high quality of our courses. We also work closely with training companies in western Sweden and provide materials and information about boating education. For some years now a investigaton is done by the goverment regarding if boat driving licens should be mandatory. Sjösportskolan is part of the process and you are welcome to call us to get more information. Sjösportskolan has a long history of close cooperation with the university Chalmers. 2004, together with Chalmers we got certified by the Maritime Administration to teach "High speed craft handling". We did an international version of this course for the Portoguese coast guard. Sjösportskolan began in 2005 on cooperation with International Yacht Training to offer courses for Master of Yachts, an international education for charter skippers valid in 25 countries. 2009 Sjösportskolans new marina was finished, 150 meters north of the office where our course and charter boats lie. In addition to our training ship Nawica, we now also own two speedboats used in training.
 Early History
Sjösportskolan was founded in 1967 by Dick Berghede with the purchase of the ship Westkust. In the beginning the activity was concentrated around this old schooner. Westkust was a familiar silhouette as the starting ship in Marstrand Fjord and was used as a touring, educational and a camp boat. A close cooperation with GKSS, Gothenburg Royal Yacht Club and Långedrag sailing courses emerged. As a natural continuation a cooperation was initiated with Pelle Petterson, this gave the opportunity to buy an old warehouse in Smögen that was converted to a study center. This popular training center close to the sea has been used since 1980 but the activities is now run totally by GKSS. Early Sjösportskolan saw a great need for support to existing navigational training in our area. Dick Berg Hede together with Gert Lindbom wrote the textbook "Course and Bearing" which thanks to a straightforward language, clear images and up to date information, is the book most widely used on the West Coast of Sweden. Already twenty years ago, Sjösportskolan began to invite teachers to navigation seminar in connection with the boat show in Gothenburg. This has now become an institution that collects a full house every time. West Coast was sold after 20 years to Orust and is today sailing as school ship. As a replacement MS Nawica was purchased, a two-masted steel ship and she now serves as a highly appreciated and used training ship. Our charter was launched with sailing weeks in the Mediterranean. Pretty soon we also started with sailing to exotic locales in the Caribbean and the Atlantic Ocean. Many participants have experienced an unforgettable sailing experience with Sjösportskolan.
